Matchday 5

S.K. Victoria Wanderers - 2 vs Nadur Youngsters - 1

by Saviour Attard -

DSC_0276Nadur Youngsters suffered the second consecutive league defeat yesterday  after loosing a close match with S.K.V.W by 2-1.Josef Buttigieg grabbed an equalizer for Nadur early in the second half after Manuel Cordina had opened the score in the first half. However the blues went ahead again from a goal near the end by Agibadi Adesina and managed to hold on to reach Nadur on top of the table with a game in hand.

Nadur provided a better performance than that against Victoria Hotspurs but still failed to obtain a result from this match. The whites reacted well in the second period after a dissapointing first half that saw them rarely being dangerous infront of goal.

The first chance on goal came from the Wanderers after 2 minutes as a low shot by Joseph Vella hit the foot of the post.Few minutes after, a cross by Fabiano Bassi found Josef Buttigieg unmarked in the area but his first time volley went wide. S.K.V.W opened the score half way of the first period when Manuel Cordina escaped the offside trap from a pass by Vella and alone infront of the keeper made no mistake with a low shot.SK had the chance to double the score in the 27th minute when Ige Adesina ,concluded poorly from a good position inside the Nadur area. Just after this action, Cordina failed to capitalize after dribbling Nadur’s keeper Sultana but his shot hit the post.

Nadur came out more aggressive in the second half and few minutes after the restart S.K.V.W’s goalie Adrain Parnis saved with difficulty a free-kick by Simoncic.Nadur levelled the score soon after.Fabian Bassi’s corner was partially cleared by Parnis outside the area where Buttigieg was ready to fire the ball in the net, a goal identical to that scored against Ghajnsielem. This goal re-vitalized Nadur and they started mounting up pressure on their opponents. In the 64 th minute Buttigieg forced Parnis for a good save with  another good shot  outside the area.

Despite the pressure by the whites, the goal came from the Wanderers 15 minutes from time.Ige Adesina released  Ajibade Adesina  on the right ,with the latter placing a low angled shot that gave Sultana no chance. Nadur tried hard to get the equalizer and were extremely unlucky when a header by Charles Hili was cleared of the line by Joseph Vella.

This was Nadur’s second consecutive defeat after the 3-0 loss with Victoria Hotspurs. The Youngsters take on Sannat this Sunday, in a match that they have to win to show that they want to fight for this year’s championship.
